If you’re... read more someone who’s felt intimidated or alienated by conventional gyms, I really recommend Strong + Bendy. Rhian and all the instructors do a beautiful job of making you feel at home. In my 2 years of coming here regularly I’ve heard zero mention of calories, “earning” food or trying to change your appearance. I’ve just experienced brilliant, fun classes, a focus on the joy of moving our bodies, and lots of support to help me find what works for me. I really appreciate things like the information about what to expect at your first class (so helpful as a multiply neurodivergent person), or the weight limit on the exercise bikes (as a fat person this can be anxiety-provoking!). Small, thoughtful touches like this have helped me feel at home from day one. It’s so telling that at a lot of gyms you see before and at their photos of clients who’ve completely changed their bodies, but at Strong + Bendy there are beautiful murals of the people who go there on the walls.
