Is Strong + Bendy mindful of those who are neurodivergent?

Yes! Below is some information you may find useful, but if there’s anything missing feel free to email our studio owner on rhian@strongandbendy.co.uk.

Noise

If you are sensitive to loud noises we recommend one of our outdoor or yoga classes – where the music volume is kept lower.

In our indoor classes, such as Strong + Bendy workout and POP HIIT Pilates, you can expect the music volume to be higher. However our instructors never use microphones, so the music is only ever at a volume the teacher can talk over.

Sight

We do not use any flashing lights in our classes. The studio has plenty of natural light and on an evening the lights are dimmable. Feel free to request the teacher dim the lights further if you like.

Touch

The only instance you’d expect to be touched is if hands on adjustments are offered in Yoga and Mat Pilates. This is optional and your consent will be asked for. In Yoga, Pilates and Dumbbell HIIT you will have your own equipment and it will not be shared, in all other classes you will share equipment.

Smell

You should know we use essential oils in diffusers during Yoga and POP HIIT Pilates classes.

Schedule + Late comers

Group Kettlebell Class in Hackney Wick unique gym garden

We always run our schedule exactly on time and avoid, where possible, any last minute changes to the schedule. Any changes (EG a substitute teacher) will be communicated as far in advance as possible. Should you no longer want to take the class due to a change in the schedule we’ll always ensure you can take a different class instead.

If you are more than 10 minutes late you cannot join a class as you will have missed the briefing and warm up. If you are less than 10 mins late it will be at the instructor’s discretion if they think it’s safe to join. Our teachers will always try their best to accommodate you – if there’s a safe way to allow you to join a class late they will find a way to do so!

Yoga class Hackney Wick

Classes will always be paced strictly based on the class format – for example in Strength Circuits you spend 45 seconds with 15 seconds rest on each station. However within that you are welcome to go at your own pace.

How are the exercises communicated

Typically in a class the teacher will demonstrate the move you’re being asked to do once or twice, then the rest of the time it will be cued verbally.

With the exception of POP HIIT Pilates where the teacher will do the vast majority of the class all the way through with you.
